COMMON QUESTIONS

Floor repair FAQs

Can you match my existing hardwood floors for a repair?

In most cases, yes. Though a perfect match depends on species availability and the age of your floors. Site-finished hardwood is the easiest to blend because we refinish the entire repaired section and surrounding area together. For prefinished or engineered floors, we’ll assess whether a blend is possible or whether an accent strip (like a border or threshold) is a better design solution.

Often yes, depending on severity. Minor surface water damage (cupping, light staining) can usually be repaired by re-sanding and refinishing. Severe damage where boards have buckled or the subfloor is compromised may require partial or full replacement. We’ll assess the moisture content, subfloor condition, and structural integrity before recommending an approach.

A weave-in is where new boards are cut and fitted between existing boards to fill a damaged section, ‘woven’ into the existing pattern rather than patched on top of it. This is the most seamless repair technique for strip and plank floors. After fitting, we sand and refinish the entire section together so the stain and sheen match across the repair.

Repair is almost always significantly less expensive, and less disruptive, than replacement. Even in cases of substantial damage, targeted repair plus refinishing typically costs 30–60% less than full tear-out and installation. We’ll give you an honest assessment of both options so you can decide.

In most cases, yes. We use a combination of subfloor fastening (from above through the finish floor, with plugs), construction adhesive injected through pre-drilled ports, and bridging from below when accessible. We’ll diagnose the source of the squeak before recommending the approach.
